What is the Gospel

The Good News of Jesus Christ

The word ‘Gospel’ means ‘Good News.’ But what is this good news? It is the message of God’s love for us, His plan to rescue us from sin, and the hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

1. God’s Design

God created everything good, including mankind, to live in a perfect relationship with Him.
📖 Genesis 1:31“God saw all that He had made, and it was very good.”
God formed the first man, Adam, from the dust and breathed life into him. Then, He created Eve to be his companion. They were made in God’s image, designed to walk in perfect fellowship with Him.
📖 Genesis 2:7“Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.”
📖 Genesis 2:18“The Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.’”
God gave Adam and Eve a purpose—to care for creation and live in joyful relationship with Him. There was no sin, no pain, and no separation from God.

2. Our Sin & Separation

📖 Genesis 2:16-17“And the Lord God commanded the man, ‘You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.’”
God gave Adam and Eve one command, but they were tempted by Satan and chose to disobey God. Instead of trusting His perfect plan, they ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil—and sin entered the world.
📖 Genesis 3:6“When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.”
Because of their sin, Adam and Eve were separated from God and removed from the Garden of Eden. Sin brought shame, pain, suffering, and death into the world.
📖 Genesis 3:23-24“So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. After He drove the man out, He placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.”

3. Sin Affects All of Us

Sin didn’t stop with Adam and Eve—every person since then has sinned.
📖 Romans 3:23“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Because God is holy, our sin separates us from Him. No matter how hard we try, we cannot fix this separation on our own.
📖 Isaiah 59:2“But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.”
Without God’s help, we are lost, broken, and destined for death.
📖 Romans 6:23“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Thankfully, God had a plan to restore our relationship with Him through Jesus Christ.

4. Jesus Our Rescue Plan

God’s love for us is greater than our sin. From the very beginning, He had a plan to bring us back to Him. That plan is Jesus..
📖 John 3:16“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Even though we deserved punishment for our sin, God sent Jesus to take our place. Jesus—fully God and fully man—lived a sinless life and willingly went to the cross to pay the penalty for our sins.
📖 Romans 5:8“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

5. Jesus Took Our Place

On the cross, Jesus bore the full punishment for our sins. His death was the sacrifice that satisfied God’s justice while also displaying His love.
📖 2 Corinthians 5:21“God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”
Jesus died, was buried, and on the third day, He rose again—defeating sin and death!
📖 1 Corinthians 15:3-4“Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.”
Because Jesus lives, we can be made right with God! Through His resurrection, He has the power to give us eternal life and restore what was broken by sin.
📖 John 11:25“Jesus said, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me will live, even though they die.’”
Jesus’ rescue is a gift—we don’t have to earn it. He calls us to respond in faith and receive His grace.
📖 Ephesians 2:8-9“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”

6. Our Response

Jesus offers the gift of salvation freely, but like any gift, we must receive it. God does not force Himself on anyone—He invites us into a restored relationship with Him.
📖 John 1:12“But to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.”

7. How do we respond to the Gospel?

1️⃣ Admit You Need a Savior
We must recognize and confess that we are sinners and cannot save ourselves.
📖 Romans 3:23“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
2️⃣ Repent & Turn to God
Repentance means turning away from sin and choosing to follow Jesus.
📖 Acts 3:19“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”
3️⃣ Believe & Trust in Jesus Alone
Salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ, not through good works.
📖 Romans 10:9“If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
4️⃣ Follow Jesus & Grow in Faith
Becoming a Christian is not just about a one-time decision—it’s about following Jesus daily. We grow in our faith through prayer, reading the Bible, and being part of a church family.
📖 Matthew 16:24“Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘Whoever wants to be My disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow Me.’”
